# Adding Prompts

> Learn the different ways to add prompts to your project — manual entry, file import, and AI-generated suggestions.

Surfacd offers three ways to add prompts to your project. Navigate to your project's **Prompts** tab and click **+ Add Prompts** to get started.

## Manual Entry

Add prompts directly by typing them. This is ideal for adding specific questions you know your buyers ask — inspired by sales calls, customer feedback, or industry events.

* **Single Prompt** — add one prompt with a custom country and tag settings
* **Multiple Prompts** — bulk add, one per line, sharing the same country and tags

For each prompt you can set:

* **Topic** — the category this prompt belongs to (select an existing topic or create a new one)
* **Country** — the geographic context for the prompt
* **Tags** — labels for filtering and analysis
* **Keywords** — optional search terms associated with the prompt

## File Import

Upload a CSV or Excel file to add prompts in bulk.

1. Click **+ Add Prompts** → **File Import**
2. Upload your file or drag and drop
3. Map columns to the required fields (prompt text, country)
4. Optionally map topic, tags, and keywords
5. Review the parsed prompts
6. Save to your project

File import is useful when migrating prompts from spreadsheets, or when multiple team members contribute questions in a shared document.

## Suggested Prompts

Let AI generate prompt ideas based on a topic you describe. This is ideal for discovering questions you hadn't considered or expanding into new topic areas.

1. Click **Suggest Prompts**
2. Select a **Topic** to assign generated prompts to — choose an existing topic or create a new one
3. Add an optional **description** and **target audience** for more context
4. Select a **country** and **language**
5. Click **Generate**

Suggestions appear with a **Suggestion** badge. You can **accept** or **decline** each one individually or in bulk. Accepted prompts become active and are included in future data collection runs.

See [Suggested Prompts](/docs/suggested-prompts) for the full guide on reviewing and managing suggestions.

## Prompt Limits

Each project has a maximum number of active prompts, set by your team admin. You can check your remaining capacity before adding large batches. If you're approaching the limit, consider deactivating low-value prompts or speaking to your team admin about increasing the limit.

## Tips

* **Start with Suggested Prompts** if you're unsure what to monitor — describe your business and let AI do the heavy lifting
* **Use Manual Entry** for specific questions you hear from customers or prospects
* **Use File Import** when you have an existing list of questions to monitor
* Add the **same prompt with different countries** to track regional differences, or use [Copy to Country](/docs/copying-prompts) after adding
